What does an account add?

An account (free, via the sign-up page) lets the site remember your cameras. You can track models you're shopping for, mark the ones you own, and get alerts when a tracked camera's price does something worth knowing about. Everything you track lands on your watchlist, which shows the current low, the 7, 30, and 90-day trends, and a buy signal for each model.

To start tracking, hit the star on any camera's page or on the home page cards.

When do alerts fire?

The crawl runs nightly, and two things trigger an alert on a tracked camera: its lowest used price drops 5% or more, or it hits a new 90-day low. Alerts show up under the bell icon in the header whenever you're signed in.

The email digest

If email alerts are on, we also send the alerts as email: at most one digest per day, and only on days when at least one alert fired. No alerts, no email. It comes from alerts@shouldyoubuythiscamera.com.

Two ways to turn it off or back on: the unsubscribe link at the bottom of every digest, or the Email alerts card on your watchlist page. Turning email off doesn't stop the alerts themselves; they still collect under the bell.

One known quirk: Gmail sometimes files the first digest in Spam before it learns better. If you signed up and see nothing, check there and mark it Not spam.

Where do the prices come from?

A nightly crawl of public listings at used-gear retailers, normalized into one price history per model. The full pipeline, including what the condition grades mean and where the numbers can be wrong, is on the methodology page.

Privacy and your data

The short version: we store your email and your tracked cameras, we don't sell anything, and deleting your account deletes it all. The long version is the privacy page.
